How Technology Is Inevitable - 1141 Words

The fact that new technological innovations are being created on a daily basis is not a surprising bit of information. And, for most of us, neither is the â€Å"anxiety about ubiquitous surveillance† (Hunt) that accompanies it. We have our privacy invaded nearly every single day, ranging from having our telephone conversations tapped into to being constantly watched by every surveillance camera in a major retail store. One of the newest wonders in technology is the Google Glass—an interesting pair of eyeglasses that allows its wearer to check social media websites on a small screen or even snap a quick photograph of his or her surroundings with a mere wink. In an opinion piece written for CNN, writer Paul Saffo combines common logic, a connection with his audience, and his reputable background to claim that technological advancement is unavoidable and while there are great initial prospects, a major loss of privacy is sure to follow even in something as seemingly harmle ss as the Google Glass. Saffo’s logos implicitly states the portion of the claim that technological advancement is unavoidable. The author utilizes several examples from the past, such as the transformation of bulky computers to sleek laptops, from sleek laptops to cell phones, aptly named smartphones for their ability to work nearly as efficiently as a computer.
